How to add a picture or logo to a PDF on a Mac
Put a photo, stamp or logo on a PDF page on a Mac with Preview's copy and paste, resize it, and add a full page picture as a new page.
The problem
You need your logo on a letter, a photo on a form, or a stamp on a page, and Preview's menus have no command to insert a picture.
How do I insert an image into a PDF on a Mac?
Copy and paste it. Preview has no Insert Picture command for PDFs, but it pastes a picture onto a page.
- Open the picture in Preview, press Command A to select all of it, then Command C.
- Open the PDF, go to the page, and press Command V. The picture appears on the page.
- Drag it into place and drag a corner to resize it.
- Save, or choose File > Export as PDF to keep the original as it was.
How do I add a logo without a white box around it?
Give the logo a transparent background first. Preview's Remove Background, in the Tools menu, does it for a picture with a clear subject. See make a signature or logo background transparent.
How do I add a photo as a new page in a PDF?
Show thumbnails with View > Thumbnails and drag the picture file from Finder into the sidebar where the page should go. Preview adds it as a new page. Or choose Edit > Insert > Page from File.
Our take
Use a PNG with a transparent background for anything that sits on top of a page. A JPEG always brings a rectangle with it, and a logo in a white box on a coloured letterhead looks pasted in, which it is.
In Simply PDF
Turning pictures into PDF pages is free in Simply PDF. In the editor's document mode, with a key, you can type, format and add pictures like a note, and the PDF is rebuilt from what you see when you save.
